Inter-Library Loan

The Inter-Library Loan works for individual users as well as for all libraries in the Czech Republic.

Inter-Library Loan Services (ILL)

If the document you are looking for is not in the NTL collection (which you can find out by looking through the NTL Catalogue), but it does exist in another library in the Czech Republic, you can order it through the Inter-Library Loan Services. The commonly known acronym for this service is ILL (in Czech “MVS”). If the document is not in the Czech Republic, you can use the International Inter-Library Services (IILS).

On-line orders for the inter-library loan services for registered NTL users

NTL’s ILL will ensure that NTL (formerly STL) users with a valid reader’s card can borrow documents from the fields of Technology and Applied Natural Sciences from other libraries in the Czech Republic. It is possible to submit request forms in person /upon an arranged appointment/ (address: Národní technická knihovna, Technická 2710/6, 160 80 Praha 6 - Dejvice, entrance "NTK3", ground floor), by e-mail: mvs@techlib.cz or by filling out one of our web forms. This service is provided free of charge to all holders of a valid NTL (formerly STL) User Card. Book loans from other library collections are generally carried out in person at the NTL, in rare instances in absentia (only with a security deposit). The user is required to notify the NTL, without delay, about the loss, damage or destruction of borrowed materials, and is required to pay for damages by a specified deadline (see the Library Regulations of the NTL).

The user covers the cost of copying any documents from other libraries.

• borrowing (borrowing a document)

• reprographic (getting a copy of an article, or paper)

International Inter-Library Loan Service (IILS)

The IILS obtains informational material from the field of technological and applied natural sciences in the form of a copy of an article from a periodical or the borrowing of a publication from foreign libraries. The commonly used acronym for this service is IILS (in Czech “MMS”). You may only use the IILS service to request documents that cannot be found in the collections of libraries in the Czech Republic. Users with an established VPL account can pay for reprographic services and IILS services from it.
