Rare books and special collection

The Special Collection of NTL contains books that were published from 1500 to 1913. It is composed of a “core” that corresponds to the category of old prints (1500-1800); this collection has been stored in vaults in locations that are monitored and that have regulated climate conditions. For now, the 19th century collection is stored under standard storage conditions. The last part of the NTL historical collection is the documents printed in the years 1901-1913. This not quite standard division originates from the National Library’s traditional approach to history when organizing its collection. It deals with documents that belonged to the Professional Engineering School and its descendents, so it is necessary to approach the NTL historical fund rather like one would to a collection fund.

Study Room of the Rare Books and Special Collection (3th Level)

The historical collection has been open to researchers since 2006. To this end Research Regulations were adopted, which have become an integral part of the Library Regulations of the NTL. Strict loans carried out only in person are accomplished with the cooperation of the Office of the Rare Books and Special Collection and the services division in the areas of the Study Room of the historical collection.
