New eResources for 2015

Last year, the library significantly expanded its collection of eResources in technology and the natural sciences. Our collection now includes over 37,000 eBooks, 800 eJournals, and other specialized resources.

The library will provide an informational seminar about these resources (in Czech) on Wednesday, March 4, starting at 9:00 (3rd floor, instructional room PC 02). More information here.

New eBooks

In addition to traditional eBooks from Springer, Wiley, and Elsevier, you can also now access the ebrary Computers & IT collection, which contains over a thousand eBooks on computer technology, an area of study which the library - over the long-term - wishes to support in the most up-to-date and flexible manner possible.

Also new are approximately 11,000 eBook titles in ScienceDirect, which were chosen according to the process of Evidence-Based Selection. In 2016, the titles most in demand will be entered into the library's permanent collection.

To make it even easier to use eBooks in the library, you can rent readers and tablets (including, new this month, six iPad Minis) at the Central Service Desk on the second floor.

Electronic vs. Print Journals

To enable better, more rapid access to current journal materials, the library is providing more access to the best journals in electronic format, including both Science and Nature (note: when accessing these materials from outside the library, be sure to login to the library's website first). Also new are selected Taylor & Francis technical journals and its Environment & Agriculture collection as well as The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE)/IET Electronic Library, which contains nearly a third of the current world literature in the field of electronics, communications, and computer science plus standards and thousands of conference proceedings.

In 2015, we also renewed our subscription to IOPscience (from the Institute of Physics) and officially started offering Mathematical Sciences Publishers journals focused on mathematics and related fields.

Specialized Online Resources

Also now available are ProQuest Dissertations & Theses Full Text: The Sciences and Engineering Collection, which includes dissertations and theses focused on science and technology from around the world, mostly from the US and Canada. The TECHEM COMPASS tool offers a comprehensive resource for effective work with REACH and CLP legislative texts and for creating Material Safety Data Sheets. Czech language recent regulations and trends are available in Enviprofi  (corporate ecology and environmental protection) and Techportál (technical management and engineering).

All resources are accessible using the search box on the library's main page. Our full list of eResources includes descriptive and coverage information as well as links to more information (including tutorials, where available). You can also browse our eBooks and eJournals to find a specific title.
