Talks & ShareSpace for PhD+
In collaboration with the Czech Association of Doctoral Researchers (ČAD), NTK Academic Services is launching a new series of events for early career researchers – Talks and ShareSpace for PhD+. The aim is to bring together doctoral candidates and postdocs from different disciplines and institutions in informal sessions to discuss the most topical issues in their studies, research, personal or career development.
The events will take place in the NTK venue and they are free for all, but you do need to register for the one you are interested in.
Do not hesitate to propose your own topic and/or prepare a presentation. Your ideas and contributions are very welcome!

Data Horror Escape Room at NTK
The event has been rescheduled from March 25 to April 29 due to organizational reasons.
Have you ever been given a last minute task by your supervisor only to learn that it’s not going to be a quick formality but a demanding task? Imagine the horror if such a task was Research Data Management (RDM), or more precisely, writing a Data Management Plan (DMP)! Sounds like a situation you’d rather escape? Great, then join us for a special edition of Talks & ShareSpace for PhD+ – an interactive Data Horror Escape Room at the National Library of Technology (NTK). Instead of a traditional lecture, you will work in small teams to solve puzzles, follow clues, and complete challenges related to RDM.
Data Horror Escape Room was created in 2020 by a group of academics from the Netherlands to facilitate discussion about research data management during educational, social, and peer-to-peer events. This game is intended primarily for early-career researchers from all disciplines – but fun loving researchers in all career stages, including pre-graduate students, are also welcome. We are pleased to introduce our game master, Jan Vališ, an experienced data steward at UCT Prague and information specialist at NTK with expertise in RDM, particularly in the context of Open Science.
Little to no prior knowledge of RDM is required. Anyone interested in open science or good research practice or keen to improve their handling of data is welcome to join. During the game, participants will encounter key RDM topics such as the research data lifecycle, FAIR data principles, data organization and documentation, responsible data sharing, and basic concepts of open science and reproducibility. Last but not least, you will have the opportunity to network with peers from the Dejvice Campus and beyond. That’s what we especially love about the Talks & ShareSpace for PhD+ sessions.
The event will take place in the Alexandria Academic Lounge attached to the Café Prostoru in the NTK foyer. You are welcome to come a bit earlier (from 16:00) to enjoy networking before the meeting itself starts at 17:00. You can make the experience even nicer by grabbing a drink or something to eat from the adjoining Café Prostoru. The event will end around 20:00.
The meeting is organized by the NTK Academic Services together with the Czech Association of Doctoral Researchers (ČAD). We won’t record this meeting or stream it online. However, the organizers may take photos and publish them on their websites and/or social media pages.
To register for the event, please fill in the form. Seats are limited! You will then receive a confirmation email with more detailed directions on how to get there. Registration is open until April 28, 2026.
When processing personal data, the Library is acting in accordance with Regulation (EU) 2016/679 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 27 April 2016 on the protection of natural persons with regard to the processing of personal data and on the free movement of such data as well in accordance with the Integrated Library Conditions of Use.
Last events
On Thursday, April 24, the first of the new Talks & ShareSpace for PhD+ meeting series took place at the National Library of Technology (NTK), organized by the NTK Academic Services in cooperation with the Czech Association of Doctoral Researchers (ČAD). In addition to introducing these two organizations and what they offer to doctoral students, the main topic of the meeting was the ongoing implementation of the doctoral studies reform in the Czech Republic. In addition to presenting the main parameters of the reform and answering related questions, the meeting included a more open discussion of the participants’ own experiences within their PhD studies and the problems they have faced. Those shared experiences showed that despite some efforts to improve on the universities’ part, the quality of official communication in English remains problematic and supervision is sometimes conducted in inappropriate ways. One topic that resonated strongly – as a crucial element affecting both the quality of doctoral studies and the doctoral students’ satisfaction – was the relationship with the supervisor.
