Public Computers (Terminals)

Public computers are available to all registered patrons for accessing the Internet and viewing and editing documents. They are available on Floors 3 to 6 and in the After Hours Study Room.

Notice: You can store up to 5 GB of data. When you exceed the data limit, you no longer be able to login; ask our service team for assistance. Please always backup your data. After 14 days of inactivity (i.e., no logging into a terminal), we will delete all your files and documents.

Logging In & Logging Out

  1. Enter your username
  2. Enter your password
  3. Move the mouse cursor to the upper left corner to choose an application
  4. Logout using the “little door” icon in the right upper corner
  5. For more help go to Applications > Utilities > Help

Connecting & Using a Flash Drive

  1. Connect your flash drive to the USB port (on the left side of the monitor) and go to “Places” and then to “Computer” in the upper left corner.
  2. Your flash drive will show up in column menu on the left (below the Trash icon).
  3. Click your flash drive icon to display its contents. If the computer is unable to connect your flash drive, please ask our service team for assistance.

Printer Settings

The default setting is color printing. To print in black and white, select Stupně šedi or “Grayscale”:

Libre Office

Printer Setting:    Print > Printer > NTK

Color Setting:    Print > Properties > Device > Color > Grayscale

Two-Sided Print Setting:     Print > Properties > Paper > Duplex > Long Edge

PDF Document Viewer

Printer setting:    Print > Printer > NTK

Color setting:    Print > Color > Output Mode > Grayscale

Two-Sided Print Setting:     Print > Page Setup > Two-sided > Long Edge

Playing a Sound

All computers have 3.5 mm audio output for headphones. You can borrow headphones on the second floor.

Installed Apps

  • Mozilla Firefox – web browser (Applications > Favorites)
  • LibreOffice – office suite that is comprised of:
    • Writer – word processor
    • Calc – spreadsheets
    • Impress – presentations
    • Draw – vector graphics editor (Applications > Graphics)
  • Programming:
    • Eclipse – open source IDE
    • Eclipse C/C++ Debugger
    • Meld – visual diff and merge tool to compare files or directories
    • OpenJDK 8 Monitoring & Management Console
    • Visual Studio Code – source code editor
  • Graphics:
    • Darktable – photography workflow application and raw developer
    • GNU Image Manipulation Program (GIMP) – raster graphics editor
    • Inkscape – vector graphics editor
  • Calibre – suite of eBook software to organize and convert eBooks
  • Zotero – reference management software to manage research materials and generate in-text citations and bibliographies

For programs such as Calculator, Text Editor, or Clocks go to: Applications > Accessories or Applications > Utilities.
